Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
A must read Kingsolver book for anyone who loves the environment. This is the real answer to so many problems. Go local, get to know your food and your farmers. Teach your children that carrots, not spaghetti grow in the ground and watch them become more aware and respectful of food, the planet, plants, animals, water... http://animalvegetablemiracle.com really it's a beautiful thing. Inspirational to see what just one family can do. I loved it. Well I still have a few pages to go. Thanks Cass! It was just what I needed to get my energy and hopes up again.

Oh goodness, I hated this book. I agreed with everything she was doing, but she presented it in such a pretentious, self-rightous way, I couldn't take it. You can present an alternative way of living and all its virtues without attacking those who don't currently live the way you do.
ReplyDeleteYes we can't all be perfect but the idea of going local and really paying attention to where you food comes too is, I think, the solution to a lot of some very basic problems. I didn't think it was too pretentious but her writing does have that way about it. I have noticed it more in other essays. I think I was too involved in the turkey sex to notice. haha
ReplyDeleteThe turkey sex part was by far the most interesting and well-written part of the book. I think it says more about our current food culture than anything else she wrote about.
